MAORI TIKI KORURU CARVED WOODEN MASKS x 2 – FD107
These beautifully carved Maori masks, which I believe is in the style of the Koruru masks (round eyes) and has the characteristic paua (abalone) shell was a happy find by me. As you can probably tell looking through just a few of my items I love Pacific Islander culture. Such beautiful proud people with a rich history and love of family.
CONDITION:
Although these are considered a matching pair, there are very slight variations (millimeters) as they are hand carved. There is a small layer of stained wood missing on the top right hand eye of one of the masks. I have left is as is but you could easily re-stain it.
Both have small chips/pitting around the edges of both masks.
Please see last 2 pictures showing what I've pointed out.
Both have a 45 degree hole in the back to mount on a nail. You could make the hole larger, place your own mount or use 3M velcro strips to mount to your wall.
These are 20th century souvenirs. I would not offer up any items of significant culture value.
Dimensions:
